Spiritual Session at CNMCH by Brahma Kumaris
Kolkata (West Bengal): The packed auditorium at the Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital (CNMCH) saw a different kind of discourse. Listening in rapt attention were 600-odd doctors including CNMCH (Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital) Principal Dr. Ajay Ray, nurses and medical students. The talk, however, was not on medical science, but on spiritualism. The objective was to enable them to tackle problems and handle agitated patient parties in a better way.
The session by the Brahma Kumaris focused on an all-round approach to health and healthcare. It stressed enhancing inner well-being and knowledge of the self and ego.
BK Asmita urged medical professionals to take care of patients through a humanistic approach. She said professionals have to maintain inner stability, peace and balance to eliminate mental obstructions of anger, impatience and agitation.
BK Padma urged the students to embrace mindfulness and meditation along with science and medication. The speakers stressed the importance of positivity and a conscious effort to eliminate negative habits, such as addictions, through meditation.
The audience seemed quite moved by the speakers. “I really want to start working on time, so that I can spend more time with my family and be mentally prepared to handle pressure,” said Rinzin Bhutia, a nursing student. The role of social media and certain trends, such as the Blue Whale Challenge, and their dangers were also discussed.
“Instead of using our minds to think creatively and thoughtfully as we used to, we have let social media guide our thoughts and behavior. Once controlled, we are likely to spiral into a dangerous lifestyle,” BK Asmita said.
Medical superintendent and vice-principal of CNMCH Dr. Sandip Ghosh said that the one-hour session was enriching and informative.
