"Yoga for Peace on the Street" by Brahma Kumaris, Bhopal
The Silent Meditation on the street was extremely impressive being performed by Peace Messengers looking like angels in pure white uniform. The Brahma Kumaris Center of Gulmohar Colony in Bhopal observed International Yoga Day in a unique way this year. In the smart city of Bhopal, the Government made a separate track for the cyclists along with the main road.
In front of the Barkatullah University the participants assembled and took their own places in a peaceful manner, mostly in white dress like Peace Messengers. The aim was to deliver peaceful vibrations in the environment for the safety of the commuters and walkers, to minimize the road accidents and to prevent the loss of lives.
The Chief Guest on this occasion was Mr. Surjit Singh Chouhan, Commissner of Bhopal Municipal Corporation. He said, “With the effort of the Government, International Yoga Day could be observed for the 4th year consecutively. Now it has received the attention of the world. Everyone has known the value of Yoga and so showing the interest to learn and practice it. Brahma Kumaris are praiseworthy for their hard efforts to re-establish Peace on this Earth.” He said that the citizens of Bhopal will be highly benefited by such events being conducted by the Brahma Kumaris.
BK Dr. Rina, Gulmohar Center-In Charge and State Media Co-ordinator of Madhya Pradesh arranged the “Yoga for Peace on the Street” program for the public in which BK students, students from various schools and colleges, workers, employees, householders, ladies, elite and the general public participated in large numbers in thousands with great zeal, enthusiasm, pleasure, and with the spirit of sportsmanship. In her address to the participants she said, “lnternational Yoga Day, celebrated on June 21st very year all over the world may also be called a great festival of Yoga. This day is the longest day of the year and relevantly Yoga also gives a longer life to the practitioner.”
She further said, “This lndian Yoga is very ancient and powerful. The sages of yore did penance and practiced Yoga in mountain caves, the signs of which are still available. The history of Yoga is as old as 5,000 years in lndia. The name Yoga came from the Sanskrit word “Yuj” meaning to connect Self with Self Consciousness. That is to realize the true identity of the Self as an Immortal Soul. For this one must spare some time to love Thyself. The worthy always meet with success in the journey of life. History stands as evidence that a true Yogi is ever at the peak of success. Yoga makes a person fit on physical, mental, social and spiritual levels.” She said, “As Yoga renders the body flexible and strong, so also it makes our brain free from disturbing thoughts, the cause for our tensions, and gives the mind, peaceful and joyful rest. Regular practice of Yoga improves resistance power to face any disease in the body. Mainly it enhances concentration power which gives us the ability to judge and take proper decisions in our daily life. Today people are more inclined toward Yoga to get rid of their problems, tensions, and worries in their lives. These powers are most essential, and can be acquired by the regular practice of Yoga. Now, slowly people are able to grasp the importance and value of Yoga. They are becoming aware that it gives them joyful health. The practice of yoga, pranayam, jap, discipline and self control gives good health to the mind and body as well. Weakness of the body and soul is replaced by divine attributes and powers and man feels energetic and active. As per the Gita’s version, Yogah Karmesu Kaushalam … efficiency in all aspects improves with regular Yoga practice. Today people in society are adopting a Yoga program as a daily timetable to practice. Generally we see that with the counselling of a doctor, most sickness heal faster but I would say Yoga must commence before any disease comes. That is why the saying goes, “Prevention is better than cure.” In this way by her inspirational and enlightening discourse BK Dr. Rina on the occasion of International Yoga Day asked everyone to take an oath that by the regular practice of Yoga, they would become the best corporate citizens of society, country and the world at large. Hence the saying: only the Yogi is worthy on this earth.”
The entire program was great and a very successful event. All the praise goes to these Angels on Earth.
